painted sky
There is a soft green haze over most of the trees now- save the Willows which are yellow- promising lovely leaves with the next rain this week.
We made it-- another winter gone and Spring arrived. This has been a tough one- I spent nearly a month away from home helping my mother before and after her knee surgery, I was home about a week and then my husband and son left for several weeks for a job also down state because it was the only work available at that time...
But the 'green haze' around the trees can also be seen as a harbinger of prosperity to come; jobs are flying in and we're all beginning to feel a little overwhelmed. After months and months of little to no activity this sudden influx (which is really nothing compared to where we'll be in July) is a little scary. Today I will have the delivery of a large corner cabinet that needs a custom faux finish on it and tile installed along the interior back.
Next up is the delivery of a dining room table top from a local furniture dealer who had the original finish bubble up and work away from the wood during the final sealant coat. The newly stripped and base-coated top needs a floral medallion and ivy work around the edging to suggest the original design.
My art work is being installed this week in a pretty little downtown shop where --fingers crossed- some will sell. I've been very discouraged with the lack of movement. Folks say they love it and everyone is thrilled to receive it as a gift but buyers have been scarce. Its depressing, really. But Winter is tough on everyone so maybe with the sunny warm weather art buyers will be back....
And of course the concessions are being readied for an end of May opening; hiring begins this weekend, recipes are being taste tested, schedules being finalized and soon we will be on site to scrub, paint what is needed and do set up. I have no former employees coming back this year , so along with the relaxed guide lines of the new city manager and extended hours this seems like a very different year ahead-- I am both excited and scared silly. Its such a fast season with very little lead-up and no slow down- just Go!Go!Go! for 9 weeks then BAM! Its done.... you'd think I'd be used to it lol!
Some of the new things happening are 1.) Weekend Breakfasts 2.) Specialty Dinners 3.) An up-graded Patio for seating 4.) A re-vamped menu at Ferry Beach 5.) A Once a month Shopping event at Michigan Beach....
It should be a really good summer.
