The Blue Dog displayed on Rue Royal

The tradition started last year-- Jack and I coming to nola to stay for the month of November. Once again here we are! This year was a bit more complicated as I flew down first to work as a Reader at the New Orleans Witches Ball over Halloween weekend with Jack, our son and the pets following a week later. This morning marks the beginning of the whole group being here. This blog page will , like last year's. work a bit like an online diary of the month. Check in to see what I'm up to right here!

Everyone is here - two dogs, 2 cats, my husband and -at the very last minute - my son. They all arrived at about 3pm yesterday. We got the car unloaded, animals, settled, and clothes put away first thing. Then the human elements of the party wandered into the FQ for dinner and to ogle the filming for NCIS New Orleans. Tacky Tourists? Yessss- we can do that :-).
Jack and I had an early early night being elderly (lol!) but our son left after dinner to find friends in Jackson Square thereby insuring that no sleep would be had by me until he came back in (he did ok - was in by about 1am).
Today its supposed to storm later on but pretty soon we are going to load up the dogs and head over to City Park to let them sniff and drag us around. Later it will be grocery-getting..
Check back for more exciting updates :-)

Yesterday we did indeed go to City Park with the dogs. True to form Cooper thinks this grand adventure is, well, Grand. Bentley is quite certain that this all signifies the end of the world and skulks along the park walkways like a stray that has been kicked one too many times. *eyeroll* The rain that threatened most of the day arrived in force by 3pm making the late afternoon and the rest of the day one of indoors only.. we had dinner at home, watched TV and went to bed early. It was actually kind of nice.
This morning we awoke to MUCH cooler temps (59*!) and cloudy skies but basically the deluge has passed by. Today we are going to wander the cemeteries at the end of Canal St and take advantage of the buffered sun and heat that normally makes the wanderings in that area an oven.

The rains held off but the weather was definitely calling for sweaters and jeans and boots! After a quick walk around the block with the dogs we headed to Parkway for lunch-- SO good and yet SO bad for me! I had a fried catfish poboy that left me full for the next 13 hours. Pretty convenient, actually lol.
St Patrick #2
After lunch we headed to the end of Canal to wander St Patrick #1 and #2 Cemeteries. I thought the weather was glorious for that type of excursion - windy, cloudy, cool - but the guys were whiny and cold so I suggested we cut it short. After a quick stop into the Herb Import Company for some incense we headed home.
Later that evening we went to Elmwood to see the movie Bridge of Spies (very good, btw).

November 12, 2015

The weather has been fantastic the last few days and we've walked miles and miles around the downtown enjoying the sunshine. Yesterday we decided to take the ferry across to the West Bank to Algiers Point- something we've never done. I'm just going to say it, though I feel a bit of a traitor- I LOVE Old Algiers and would rather live over there than on this side. We stepped off of the ferry and it was QUIET -- blessedly quiet and very few people. What a difference a river crossing can make lol. All of the architectural charm that I love about New Orleans is on that side of the river without the screeching traffic, sirens, monotonous parade of homeless and gutter punks. Of course, there is also no street music, street cars, or  NOMA,'s. But the ferry is cheap and it only takes a couple of minutes to cross to the French Quarter area. We walked, had some breakfast and went back across. After we had hung out at home for a bit we took the car back over to the West Bank to check out the larger area of Algiers proper. I can honestly say that Old Algiers and Algiers Point from the river up to Opelousas is perfect- love it and love the rents! Opelousas up towards Federal City? Ugh, no.
But anyway- here's to discovering a very cool little neighborhood on a beautiful sunny day!
