Potential Beds, Benches and Cleaning Out The Garage - or what to do when the March winds start to blow

As I mentioned in my last post ,spring time up here is a tough time. Frozen mud, high winds, bare branches and no summer work yet. But sitting around and pouting - justified or not -- can only be interesting for , Oh- about 3 days and then its time to get back to it. Which is what we have done. Which is why we have unearthed this old girl from the depths of our garage.
Bless her heart, but about the only thing you can say about this old bed is that she has 'potential'. Good thing she's ours and we are professional potential seers and not the guy next door or she would be chopped up for firewood.

two upholstered benches from one sad bed--

So what potential do you see? We see not one but two fun shabby-chic style benches.
The bench that will be made from the headboard will have an upholstered seat and arms to help support the visual and physical bulk of the headboard-turned bench back; making it more of a settee than a bench
The smaller one ,made from the foot board, will only have the upholstered seat and no arms due to less bulk that would need to be supported. I am envisioning them painted a milk paint white with chintz  patterned seats. Very garden-but-inside-the-house furniture. What do you think?

This is really the perfect time of year and perfect circumstances for me to do work like this- 1.) lots of time on my hands 2.) very little money makes me think very creatively
3.) a desire to clean out the garage (a feat that has not occurred since we moved in here 5 years ago, but hey! A girl can dream..)
Last week my foray into the bowels of the garage provided me with a decrepit outer box of an old treadle sewing machine minus treadle and sewing machine. How did I get this? Who knows! More than likely someone with more common sense than I threw it to the road where I scooped it up many years ago. What to do with it? My husband knew just what it could be--again; Potential!

sewing machine turned bathroom sink/vanity- available on the etsy store

Isn't that cute?! He sanded down and re-stained the wood, sprayed the wrought iron a nice black and turned a vintage etched glass light fixture into a sink. The faucet is new lol.

So this is how we handle the doldrums of the down times- once I'm done pouting and playing Poker with the shut-off notices I get on my treadmill, move the endorphin's along and turn junk into cool stuff. Life in The North-- only as dull as you let it be...
