Ya know, it happens every year and every year all of us up here go "Whoa! What is that orange color on that maple tree? Where did the purple and pink snapdragons go? Mums already, REALLY?!"
One of the aspects of living up here is that we live by the seasons. This is rural, farm, resort area--not much in the way of air conditioned high rises and controlled climates. If its 90 degrees outside you'll feel it inside too. And no matter how well heated the building, when the wind is blowing and bringing the temps outside down to -30 its just plain cold inside.
But that's not all... We thrive on our resort and tourist visitors and their Season is a mere 9 weeks (give or take) -- July 4 to Oct.25. When its 'Season' we are all going a mile a minute-- working 18 hour days, fitting in an occasional day at the beach or on the lake, and squeezing in time to enjoy Venetian Festival. We enjoy the summer's here as much as our visitors and are thrilled to show off our little bit of paradise.
But it ends so quickly...
The first week of August I started noticing a distressing tinge of color in the maples. My friends all assured me that this was not really 'COLOR' but merely 'drought stress'. I eagerly lapped up this bit of nonsense and resumed my hell-bent-for-leather summer routine--relishing the bright sun and 80+ degree temps. Reveling in my morning coffee on the balcony with nary a sock nor sweater found on my jammie-pant clad self. But soon that tinge of non-color became a bit brighter.. and everyday a little bit more vivid. ... *sigh*.... and its is now unavoidable.
Autumn approaches and with it sweaters and socks and cold toes and noses.
So we enter now the season of apples, and pumpkins; football and bonfires and we begin to leave behind the season of fast paced work schedules, lazy days off at the beach, thousands of extra faces in town, and festival after festival after festival.
Our Seasons define us here and this offers a feeling of security and comfort in an otherwise insecure and uncomfortable world.
Reason number 1,2065 that we live in Da North....

Sounds lovely. I'd rather come during an "off" time to explore the shops without too many people. lol
Hi Angie! It is gorgeous up here, to be sure! If you come up during an 'off time' make sure its before December or there will be no shops open to explore ;-)
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!
