5 great things to do in Charlevoix County on a summer's day

So you've come 'up north' for an afternoon-- now what? Here's a few of our favorites on the 'Ta-Do" List:

1.) Castle Farms in Charlevoix. This amazing true life castle was originally built as a model farm by Albert Loeb, the acting President of Sears, Roebuck, and Company in 1918. As a model farm it was where prize-winning livestock were raised and where Mr. Loeb showcased the newest farm equipment sold through the Sears and Roebuck catalog.Since its conception as an amazingly advanced life stock operation it has been used as storage (during the Great Depression), Van Haver's production facility and art gallery under the name Castle Van Haver, and as a nationally aclaimed concert venue hosting such acts as REO Speedwagon, Ozzie Ozborne, The Beach Boys, and more under the ownership of the Riebel family. Now entirely remodeled and operating as a world renowned wedding and party venue Castle Farms --owned by the Mueller family-- is open daily for tours and hosts a variety of art shows.

2.) Consignment Shopping in downtown Charlevoix at Consign Design
Located directly behind Bridge St at #1 Vanpelt Place this 3 story historical building is chock-full of everything from baseball cards to French atiques! Prices from 25 cents to 25 thousand--there is literally something for everyone here! Great destination on a rainy afternoon

3.) Canoeing down the Jordan River in East Jordan at Jordan Valley Outfitters.
The Jordan River is amazingly beautiful and hosts such wildlife as Swans, Great Herons, Dear, and Bald Eagles. Definitely a must-do! When you're done stop in and see me at Sacred Grounds for a fresh fruit smoothie or frozen mocha!

4.) Continuing with the quaint city of East Jordan, why not take a scenic drive down Mt Bliss road to the artsy, quirky, and ever-so amazing gallery and show room of Sacred Sparks? I promise this hidden gem is well worth the drive-- one of a kind art, jewelry and gifts in a converted purple garage sits next to an amazing meditational labyrinth and Goddess Gardens.

5.) Take The Ferry! The Ironton Ferry !
(from Wikipedia)
Ironton Ferry is a four-car cable ferry that crosses a narrow point on the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix in the U.S. State of Michigan in the town Ironton. The Ferry connects Ironton, a small village about 5 miles from Charlevoix, Michigan, to Boyne City, Michigan. Ironton was a Pig Iron Factory town. The ferry runs between April and November. Captain Sam Alexander of the ferry is listed in Ripley's Believe it or Not! for travelling 15,000 miles while never being more than 1/4 mile from his home over a period of years. The automobile fare has risen to $3.25 each way.

Take an afternoon and explore! This is just a smidgeon what we have for you to do on your visit!
