Last night shortly before dinner my son came upstairs and said his stomach was upset. I gave him some meds and a peppermint and told him to go lay down. An hour later - after dinner- my husband declared that he didn't feel very well. He took a bath and kicked back in his chair in the living room. Within the next hour both were running high fevers, had severe body aches, intestinal distress and - according to my son who tends towards the dramatic- felt like 'death'.
Ah yes-- The Flu has come to visit.
They both stayed upstairs in the living room with piles of blankets, a case of Gatorade I pulled from the garage left from last summer and a bathroom in close proximity. This morning I found half a dozen empty Gatorade bottles, blankets kicked and sliding everywhere, the TV still on and two feverish men.
After feeding the dogs and letting them out I cleaned up the living room of empties (a far cry from our crazy 20's!) reset everyone's blankets, doled out flu meds for body aches and refilled glasses with fluids. Now I am sitting here with all of the windows open (thank goodness its a rather balmy-for-here 34 degrees) and a large kettle of water,Rosemary EO ,and Camphor boiling on the stove to air the place out and clean it up.
I Am Not Getting The Flu.
I simply do not have time. I have an important business meeting on the 9th and the week after that I am headed down to my mother's to help her after her knee replacement surgery. I have not penciled in a week for the plague so it will have to wait until -oh, I dunno -- April. After my mother's surgery and after a visit to my father in Tampa.
My plan is to stay in my studio with the windows open and eat very light - fruit and veggie smoothies with the occasional bowl of rice until the specter of the flu has passed over our household. I will stay hydrated and do my yoga and breath breath breath because I do not have time for the flu.
