Ch-Ch-Changes

Harbor Springs Marina

TGIF- the last one of my summer schedule. Both of the concessions close for the season on Tuesday the 1st. I'm partly happy and partly not- big changes in my schedule like this make me very anxious- even when there is nothing inherently 'bad' about it. I live in a seasonal area and I run a seasonal business so the fact that it closes in the fall is not anything out of the ordinary. However the change in pace and focus tends to throw me every year-I go from full-tilt-boogie to 'how much laundry should I do today' in the blink of an eye. Well, that's not completely true- Autumn is busy with orders due to be shipped to New Orleans but its a different kind of busy and it takes me a little bit of time to get my land-legs back (as opposed to lake-legs lol). So for the next few days I will encourage (obnoxiously so, I'm sure!) all of my local folks to come to the beach and eat lunch so I can run out of food :-).

Adding to the change in the season and my schedule is another BIG change for the house hold; or rather a completing of a cycle.. My husband, a very talented builder and painter, has put his notice in at the restaurant he's been working in for the past several years and is going back to what he loves and is fabulous at - Building and Remodeling. This is what we did for over a decade before The Great Recession when the bottom fell out of everything forcing us to move and to shutter that aspect of Northern Visions (the art section stayed open and active). But after a crazy summer of non-stop doubles in 100*+ kitchens he has decided to take the plunge and go back to what he's meant to do. This both exhilarates and terrifies me!  I'm excited because he is happy and its what he loves to do -and when its going well the income is great. I'm scared because it means we are an entirely self-employed household with no weekly paycheck to fall back on. I'm a double Taurus- we like our security.
Mostly , though, I'm very excited for this re-awakening of our business and am looking forward to my husband's amazing skills being put to good use.

So for now I will concentrate on running out of food and supplies at the beach places and then a few treks Up North before I head to New Orleans for 6 weeks. Two nights and 3 days on Mackinac Island the second week in September then a few days in Marquette to visit my daughter the week after that... then its south!
