Doing the Spring Time Boogie

I haven't written in awhile, not because there's nothing to say but because I've been so darn busy I don't know if I'm coming or going lately! While its par for the course to be busy here in the Spring, THIS Spring has them all beat.
Spring in a summer resort town is nuts-- we've all lounged around for the winter getting a little softer and slower. Most times this is not because we WANT to but because there's no choice in it-- outdoor activities are fewer, there are less people here so social venues are few and far between compared to summer, and when its cold the body craves stuff like meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy-- you get it. And then Spring hits--BAM! Its warmer, the ice and snow have melted, its lighter longer than 4:30pm and we all start to  wake up. About 3 weeks into this, though, we all begin to panic: the resorters are due back, the houses need paint, if your business is seasonal its time to turn the water back on and chase the resulting leaks, order supplies, plant flowers and gardens--yada yada yada. And the count down begins...
The above scenario is normal; crazy, but normal. THIS Spring has a few other activities and chores thrown in to boot- I spent 3 days on Mackinac Island helping a friend open her Bed n Breakfasts. I've been organizing and setting in place all that is necessary to open 2 city owned concessions--one at the ball field which is small, one on the beach which is a full-menu bistro --, a weekly Art Walk that will gather and showcase about a dozen local Artists and Artisans, remove renters from a house that we own and get that house on the market, one child is graduating (insert here family visiting from out of town, open houses, etc.) and the consignment shop I've been apart of for the last 5 years is going out of business (read: massive clean up and organization nightmare), and there are still big orders for New Orleans to get out-- Gah!!!
I'm almost done with the former consignment shop--once that is out of the way I can turn my full attention to the concessions-- which open in about 10 days. Then its looking at the graduation stuff-- a week after opening. One step at a time and laser-tight priorities and I think I can get all of this done. The trick is to not be miserable while doing it LOL! Summers up here are so phenomenal and I don't want to waste any of the short season being upset.
My go-to activities when I feel totally under the gun is to walk if the weather allows--I will walk for miles on my own, but if my elderly Lab is with me we can do about a mile. Breath in fresh air, listen to birds--get some perspective. If the weather is icky (which it often is here in the Spring) then I paint. And BOY have I been painting! Here are a few recent pieces
The style I like to paint in is free and whimsical--it helps me to remove the boundaries and bindings that surround me when I'm stressed by internal or external situations.
I intentionally choose bright colors and happy scenery-- just working with magenta brightens my mood--the sun is always visible too!
I paint where I want to be at the moment-- from a pink house on the shores of Little Traverse Bay to the French Quarter in New Orleans. ...

Happy Spring Ya'll!
