One of these mornings I will write an in depth piece about how this summer has gone- 'Life Changing' pretty much hits it. But for now ya'll get day to day updates of life here along the shores of Lake Michigan...
Our time here in our Little Log Cabin is coming to an end-- this month will finish it out and we will head back to our house in East Jordan. A Year and half ago we rented out that house to The Renters From Hell (among other things they raised geese in the master bedroom). Obviously they didn't appear to be horrendous when we signed the lease, but it was an unmitigated disaster from the third month in. We finally got them out... We rented the home to begin with because our children were very adversely affected moving from Charlevoix to East Jordan-- our son needed to finish his senior year of high school on a positive note and our daughter needed to get her feet under her to continue on with her college. All of this has been accomplished- our son graduated from a very upbeat and happy senior year, our daughter moved to Petoskey to go to school--in fact, our son will follow her in a few weeks. Our intention was to sell the EJ house but the market is not going to allow us to make any money, so we have opted to keep it for the time being.
In the past few weeks we have had a huge garage sale to weed out a garage full of accumulated crap, had the house cleaned top to bottom, carpets cleaned in the bedrooms (goose-breeding areas! ack!) and are currently repainting. Compared to a 900 sqft full log cabin where we currently reside, that house is a dream of open space (1600 sqft), light walls, and closets! We're looking forward to this...
I don't regret moving over here for this short amount of time, though I think our friends and family looked at us a bit cross-eyed. Our parenting style has always been that we accommodate our children so that they are competent, well rounded, happy, and secure. Not that they must fit into our world. I'm proud of my kids and pleased with our family-- its what its all about in the end.
